Note two things here. First, prudence brings respect and success. A person who handles a matter wisely, meaning one who knows his work well, shows that he understands what he is doing, and thinks carefully about his affairs, will find good. He will gain a good name, and he may also make his efforts turn out well.
But piety alone secures real happiness. People may handle matters wisely, but if they are proud and lean on their own understanding, they may gain some advantage and still miss deep satisfaction. Yet the one who trusts in the Lord, not in his own wisdom, is happy and will do better in the end.
Some read the first part of the verse as speaking about true godliness, which is really wisdom. Then the meaning is this: whoever pays attention to the word of God will find good in it and through it (Proverbs 13:13). And whoever trusts in the Lord, and in the word he listens to, is a happy person.
