auto_stories Bible Guided Commentary

Note, first, that God is the first cause. He is the maker of all things and all people, the source of all being. He gives every creature its existence and appoints its place. Even wicked people are his creatures, though they are rebels. He gives them the powers they use to fight against him, which makes their sin worse. They will not let the One who made them rule over them, and so, although he made them, he will not save them.

Note, also, that God is the last end. All things are from him, and therefore all things are for him. He made everything according to his will and for his praise. He planned to use all his creatures to accomplish his own purposes, and he will not fail to do that. All are his servants. He is not glorified by the wicked, but he will be glorified through judgment on them. He does not make anyone wicked, but he made those whom he knew would be wicked (Gen 6:6), because he knew how to bring honor to himself through them. See Rom 9:22. Or, as some understand it, he made the wicked to serve him as tools of his wrath in the day of trouble, when he brings judgments on the world. He even uses wicked men, like other things, as his sword and his hand (Psa 17:13, Psa 17:14), the scourge of God. The king of Babylon is called his servant.
