God keeps a distance from those who reject him. The wicked say to the Almighty, “Leave us alone,” and so God stays far from them. He does not make himself known to them, has no fellowship with them, and will not hear or help them, even in their time of need. In the end, they will be shut out from his presence forever, and he will look on them from far away, “Depart from me, you cursed.”
But God draws near to those who draw near to him in obedience. He hears the prayer of the righteous, accepts it, and is pleased to answer it with peace. The prayer of a righteous person has great power (James 5:16). He is near to them as a present help in every need they bring to him.
