Here we have two kinds of light, and two very different ends.
The light of the righteous keeps growing and brings joy. That means their life in God becomes clearer and fuller, and this makes them glad. Even their outward success is a joy to them, and much more the gifts, graces, and comforts that light up their souls. Their path shines more and more (Proverbs 4:18). The Spirit is their light, and he fills them with joy and is pleased to do them good.
The lamp of the wicked burns weakly and dimly. It looks sad, like a small candle left in an urn, and soon it will be snuffed out in total darkness (Isaiah 50:11). The light of the righteous is like the sun, which may be hidden for a time by clouds or an eclipse, but it keeps shining. The light of the wicked is like a lamp they lit themselves, and it will soon go out, because it can be put out very easily.
