Note this: where grace rules, sin becomes hateful. Every righteous person hates lying. That means more than refusing to tell falsehoods. It means hating all sin, because every sin is a kind of lie, and especially hating fraud and dishonesty in business and everyday speech. The godly person does this from a deep love for truth and justice, and from a desire to be like God.
Where sin rules, the person becomes hateful. If his eyes were opened and his conscience stirred, he would hate himself and repent in deep sorrow. Even now, he is hateful to God and to all good people. He especially makes himself vile by lying, because nothing is more disgusting. He may manage to carry on for a while, but in the end he will come to shame and contempt, and he will be put to shame when all is revealed (Dan. 12:2).
