Here we see, first, saints kept from ruin. Those who walk uprightly, who mean honestly in all they do, and who faithfully follow God’s just and unchanging rules, are protected by their integrity. Their sincere dealing with both God and people keeps them from Satan’s temptations, which will not win the day over them. It also keeps the insults and harms of evil people from doing them real damage (Psalm 25:21).
Be this your strong wall of defense, that you know nothing against yourself. Let conscious innocence keep you safe.
We also see sinners kept for ruin. For the wicked, their own sin will finally bring them down, and even now they are tied up in its cords. If they are corrected or destroyed, it is their own wickedness that corrects and destroys them. They alone must bear the burden of it.
