auto_stories Bible Guided Commentary

God not only promises to guide the upright and warns that he will destroy transgressors. To make both truths even clearer, Scripture presents them as if the very nature of the thing makes it so.

A man of integrity will, by that very integrity, be guided in the path of duty and safety. His principles are firm, his rule is clear, and so his way is plain. Because he is sincere, he stays steady and does not need to keep changing course with every shift in the wind. He has no goal except to keep a good conscience. “Integrity and uprightness will preserve me” (Psalm 25:21).

In the same way, a wicked man’s own sin will bring about his ruin. The open, straightforward life of a good man will protect him, even when he is exposed to danger. But the stubborn crookedness of sinners will destroy them, even when they think they are well protected. They will fall into the very pits they have dug for others (Proverbs 5:22).
