This verse shows, first, the fate of those who try to lead good people, or people who only claim to be good, into sin and trouble. They may take pride in making the righteous stumble and in setting a trap for them so they can mock them. But they will not succeed. It is impossible to deceive God’s chosen ones. In the end, they will fall into the very pit they dug for others. Because they are not only sinners, but also tempters and enemies of the righteous, their guilt is greater, as Jesus warned in (Matthew 23:14) and (Matthew 23:15).
The verse also shows the happiness of those who are sincere. They will be kept from the evil path that wicked people try to lure them into. More than that, they will have good things, the best things, in their possession, the grace and comfort of God’s Spirit, as well as the blessings still waiting for them in the future.
