Here is the misery and shame of lazy people. See how foolish and unreasonable they are. They want the gains that hard workers get, but they hate the work that hard workers do. They long for everything worth having, but they will do nothing to get it. So they end up with nothing, for the one who will not work should go hungry and should not eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
The lazy person’s desire, which should push him forward, becomes his pain. What should make him active only keeps him restless and uneasy. In fact, that constant wanting is a heavier burden to him than honest work would be.
Here also is the happiness and honor of the diligent. Their soul will be made fat, that is, they will have plenty and enjoy it with comfort. They also enjoy it more because it comes as the fruit of their own effort. This is especially true in spiritual things. People who only sit still and make idle wishes never learn the blessing of religion, but those who labor in God’s service find both its joy and its profit.
