It is the way of the upright to avoid sin, and to avoid anything that looks like sin or leads toward it. This is a well-marked road, approved by authority, traveled by many before us, and shared by many who walk with us. It is easy to find and safe to travel, like a highway (Isaiah 35:8). To turn away from evil is true understanding.
It is also the concern of the upright to guard their own souls, so they are not stained by sin or driven from them by the troubles of this world. Above all, they want to avoid eternal ruin (Matthew 16:26). So they watch their path carefully and do not stray to either side, but keep pressing on toward spiritual maturity. Those who stay faithful to their duty secure their happiness. Keep to your way, and God will keep you.
