We are taught here, as in Proverbs 12:3 and Proverbs 10:25, Proverbs 10:30, that the triumph of the wicked is short-lived. They may be lifted up for a time, but soon they are brought down and disappear. Their trouble becomes their downfall, and those who once seemed so great vanish, so that the place they filled knows them no more. If you turn the wicked, they are gone, because they stand on such slippery ground that the least trouble brings them down, like the apples of Sodom, which look fine but turn to dust when touched.
We are also taught that the prosperity of the righteous rests on a firm foundation and will last. Death may remove them, but their house will stand. Their family line will be preserved, and the generation of the upright will be blessed.
