auto_stories Bible Guided Commentary

In the previous verse, the thoughts of the wicked and the righteous were compared. Here, their words are compared, and words show what is in the heart. Wicked people speak harm to their neighbors. And truly wicked are those whose words are meant to trap others and shed blood. Their tongues become like swords against those who stand in their way, especially good people whom they hate and persecute. See an example in (Luke 20:20, 21).

Good people speak for their neighbors’ good. The mouth of the upright is ready to speak up for those who are oppressed (Proverbs 31:8), to defend them, to testify for them, and so to help set them free, especially those whom the wicked try to destroy. A person may sometimes do a great deal of good with one good word.
