We are here assured, for our encouragement in every good word and work, that even good words will bring a good result (Proverbs 12:14). A person will be satisfied with good, meaning he will receive present comfort and that inward joy which truly satisfies, by the fruit of his mouth, by the good he does through godly speech and wise advice. As we teach others, we may also learn ourselves, and we may feed on the bread of life that we break for others.
Good works will be rewarded even more fully. The recompense for a person’s hands, for all his work and labor of love, all he has done for God’s glory and for the good of his generation, will be given back to him, and he will reap what he has sown. Or this may be understood as the general rule of justice, that God will give to each person according to what he has done (Romans 2:6).
