See here how the wicked often trap themselves by their own foolishness, when God justly leaves them to themselves. They are often caught by the sins of their own speech, and their own tongues bring them down. By speaking badly about rulers and others in authority, they expose themselves to public punishment. By using harsh and insulting words, they stir up private anger, face lawsuits for slander, and get dragged into court over their words. Many people have paid a heavy price in this life for what came out of their mouths, and many have felt the rod for not putting a bridle on their tongues (Psalm 64:8).
The righteous, by contrast, are often brought out of trouble by their own wisdom when God mercifully helps them. The just may come into trouble, but they are not left there forever. Even if they fall, they will not be completely cast down (Psalm 34:19).
