We speak wisely when we speak at the right time. A fitting answer, given when it is needed and likely to be heard, brings credit and joy. Many good words fail to do the good they could have done simply because they are poorly timed. There is also a special grace in having the right answer ready at once, exactly when the occasion calls for it.
If we speak wisely and well, it brings comfort to us and help to others. A person has joy in the answer of the mouth. He may take pleasure in speaking well, but he must not take pride in it. The right kind of speech is pleasing to hear and useful to those who listen, so they may say, “How good this is, and how much good it does!”
