Passion is a great troublemaker. It leads to wars and fights. Anger is like the spark that can set cities and churches on fire. A hot-tempered person, with his sharp and irritated words, stirs up quarrels and puts people at odds. He gives others reasons to argue, and he also seizes on the small reasons they give him, even when they are very slight. When people carry their anger too far, one fight keeps leading to another.
Gentleness is the great peacemaker. The person who is slow to anger does more than stop a quarrel before it starts. He also calms it when it has already begun. He pours water on the flame, brings back together people who have fallen out, and uses kind ways to lead them to settle matters for the sake of peace.
