Meekness is wisdom. The person who is slow to anger understands himself, his duties, his own good, the weaknesses of human nature, and the way human life works. Such a person knows how to overlook the faults of others, as well as his own, and how to put off resentment and keep it under control. In this way, no offense can drive him out of his own peace of mind.

A gentle, patient person is really wise. He is one who learns from Christ, who is Wisdom itself.

On the other hand, uncontrolled anger is open foolishness. The person who is quick-tempered, whose heart catches fire at every small insult, may think he is making himself important and making others fear him. In truth, he is only displaying his own folly. He shows it openly, as something lifted up and visible to all, and he puts himself under its rule, as if he were governed by a higher power.
