Here are two things that should surprise us. First, a wise person is never fully satisfied with his own wisdom, but keeps seeking more. The mind of the one who has understanding rejoices in the knowledge he has already gained, yet still longs for more, and keeps using the means that help him grow in knowledge. He keeps growing in grace, and in the knowledge of Christ.
If you say, “I have enough,” you are finished. A person who thinks he has no more need to learn is in danger.
Second, a fool is satisfied with his own folly and does not seek to be cured of it. While a good person hungers for the solid joys that come from grace, a worldly mind feeds on what pleases appetite and imagination. Empty amusement and sensual pleasure are its delight, and it is content with these foolish things, even while deceiving itself.
