Two wrong extremes in managing a household are condemned here, and both bring bad results.
Some people ruin their homes by being too anxious and worldly. They worry over business, fret over losses, and treat their servants harshly while being stingy with their families. Others stir up family rivalries and feuds, thinking they can use conflict to help themselves, or at least save money. But they will both be disappointed, because they will “inherit the wind.” That means all their efforts will end in nothing. What they gain will be empty, useless, and full of trouble.
On the other hand, some are careless and lack common sense in their work. They do not pay attention to their business, or they handle it badly, with no planning or care. Such a person loses both respect and standing, and often ends up serving wiser people. He becomes poor and must work for his living, while those who manage wisely rise and gain authority over him and others like him.
This is only right. The fool should serve the wise in heart. In the same way, we should be willing to submit our will to God’s will, because we are foolish and he is perfectly wise.
