Here, we see two opposite paths. The obedient are honored and made happy. They are willing to receive commands, and they count it a privilege to be under guidance. It is even a relief to them, because it saves them the trouble of deciding everything for themselves. They are glad to be told what their duty is and to be warned about it. This is true wisdom. Those who are wise in heart are teachable. When people are willing to bend and yield, they will stand firm and be established, and they will do well because they are well advised.
The disobedient, on the other hand, bring shame and ruin on themselves. They refuse to be governed, cannot stand any yoke, and will not be taught or take advice. They are fools, because they act against their own good and interest. Often they are noisy, talkative fools, full of words but empty of sense. They brag about themselves, speak badly about those who warn them (Jo3 1:10), and try to hand out advice and rules to others. Of all fools, these are some of the most troublesome, and they make themselves look worst. But they will fall into sin and into hell, because they would not receive commands. People who are full of talk rarely watch their steps well, and so they stumble and fall.
