Sinners cheat themselves in the worst way. The wicked person works with a lie in his hands. He builds his life on sand, so when the storm comes, it will fail him. Sin promises profit, but it never gives what it promises. It may seem pleasant for a moment, yet it is really cutting his throat. “Sin deceived me, and through it killed me” (Romans 7:11).
God’s people make the best and safest investment for themselves. The one who sows righteousness, who does what is right and makes doing good his life’s work, with an eye toward future reward, will have a sure reward. God has made that promise as certain as his own truth. If the sowing does not fail, the harvest will not fail either (Galatians 6:8).
