Ill-gotten gains will not prosper. The person who sows iniquity, who does what is unjust in hope of gaining by it, will reap vanity. What he gets will never do him any real good or give him any lasting satisfaction. In the end, he will meet only disappointment. Those who make trouble for others are only preparing trouble for themselves. People reap what they sow.
Abused power will not last. If the rod of authority turns into a rod of anger, if rulers lead by passion instead of wisdom, and if they care more about venting their anger than serving the public good, that power will fail and be broken. Their authority will not protect them in their excesses (Isaiah 10:24, Isaiah 10:25).
