Here we see, first, what the scorner does. The scorner spreads discord and causes trouble wherever he goes. Much of the quarrel and unrest that disturb people’s peace comes from the bad interpreter, as some read it, who turns everything into the worst possible meaning. Such a person despises and mocks everyone in his path, and takes pride in making fun of and insulting everyone.

Second, we see what must be done with the scorner if he will not change. Cast him out of your company, just as Ishmael, when he mocked Isaac, was sent away from Abraham’s household. If people want to keep peace, they must keep the scorner out.
