This shows that both young and old have their own advantages. So each group should serve the public according to its ability, and neither should look down on or envy the other.
Older people should not despise the young, because young people are strong and fit for action. They can handle work and push through difficulties that the aged and weak may not be able to manage. The glory of young men is their strength, as long as they use it well, in the service of God and their country, not for their own desires. They should also not become proud of their strength or trust in it.
Young people should not despise the old, because older people are serious, thoughtful, and fit to give advice. They may not have the strength young men have, but they usually have more wisdom and experience. Labor is for the young, honor for the aged. God has placed honor on the old man, because his gray head is his beauty (Daniel 7:9).
