Those who are diligent in their work take the path to a comfortable life. The person who tills his land, tends his shop, and gives attention to his business, whatever it may be, will have plenty of bread. He will have what he needs for himself and his family, and even enough to share with the poor. He will eat the labor of his hands.
Those who are idle, careless, and always in company with others take the path to misery. A man may have land and value himself because of it, but if he does not work it and instead follows vain people, drinks with them, joins their foolish pleasures, and wastes his time, he will have poverty enough. The word means he will be filled or satisfied with poverty. His habits lead so directly to that end that he seems to be asking for it, and he will have his fill of it.
