Proverbs 28:18 - Meaning and Application

Note, those who are honest are always safe. The person who acts with sincerity, speaks as they truly think, and has a single aim in everything for God’s glory and the good of others, would never knowingly do an unjust thing. Such a person walks uprightly in every part of life, and they will be saved in the end. We read of a glorious company, those in whose mouths no lie was found (Revelation 14:5). They are safe even now. Integrity and uprightness protect people and give them a holy sense of security in the hardest times, because these qualities guard their comfort, their reputation, and all their interests. They may suffer harm, but they cannot truly be ruined.

Those who are false and dishonest are never safe. The person who is crooked in their ways, and who tries to protect themselves by fraud, deceit, treachery, or wealth badly gained, will fall. Indeed, they will fall at once, not slowly and with warning, but suddenly and without notice. They are least safe when they feel most secure. Their fall comes all at once, so they have no time to guard against it or prepare for it, and because it surprises them, their terror will be all the greater.
