Here is the character of a good ruler: he is worthy to be called a king who sits on the throne, not as on a seat of honor only, to rest in comfort and keep his distance, but as on a seat of judgment, to do justice, help those who have been wronged, and punish those who do wrong. He makes the work of ruling his joy, and he values no pleasure above it. He does not put all the care and trouble on others, but looks into matters himself and, as much as possible, sees things with his own eyes (1 Kings 10:9).
Here is the good result of such rule. When a prince is present and watching, evil is often ashamed to show itself. If he oversees his work directly, those who serve under him will be held back by fear and will be less likely to act unjustly. If people in high places are good people and use their power as they should, they can do great good and stop much evil.
