Scorners are fools. People who laugh at what is sacred and serious only make themselves look foolish. In time, their folly will be clear to everyone.
Those who mock judgments cannot escape them (Proverbs 19:28). Human unbelief does not cancel out God’s warnings. People who keep sinning as if they can enjoy it without harm will find that they have swallowed the hook with the bait. Civil rulers have judgments ready for scoffers, because the sword is not meant to be carried in vain. But if a ruler is careless and overlooks sin, God’s judgments still do not sleep. They are ready (Matthew 25:41).
