Two things are here shown to have bad results: ignorance and rashness.
First, to be without knowledge is not good. Some take this to mean, “A soul without knowledge is not good.” Do we know ourselves, our own hearts? It is a great gift that we have souls, but if our souls have no knowledge, what good are we? If a person has no understanding, he is like the beasts (Psalm 49:20). An ignorant soul cannot be a good soul. It is not safe, and it is not pleasant, for the soul to be without knowledge. What good can a soul do, or what is it fit for, if it has no knowledge?
Second, rashness is also harmful. Whoever hurries with his feet, meaning he acts without thinking and does not pause to consider his steps, sins. He cannot help but often miss the mark and take many wrong steps. Those are avoided by people who think carefully about their ways. It is as bad not to consider as it is not to know.
