A malicious, mischievous man is shown here in two ways. First, he is ungrateful to his friends. He can be so foolish and blind to kindness that he returns evil for good. David faced people who repaid his love with hatred (Psalm 109:4). To repay evil with evil is like an animal’s instinct, but to repay evil for good is devilish.
Second, he is unkind to his own family, because he brings a curse on them. This sin is so serious that God punishes it not only in the man himself, but also in his children and descendants, for whom he stores up wrath. The sword did not leave David’s house because he rewarded Uriah with evil for his good service. The Jews stoned Christ for his good works, so his blood came on them and on their children.
