People who plan to do wrong often support themselves with lies. A wicked person listens gladly to false words that excuse what he is doing. Those who want to stir up public trouble eagerly catch on to lies and slander that attack the government and those who carry it out.
Those who enjoy telling lies also enjoy hearing them. A liar pays attention to a harmful gossiping tongue so he can build his own lies on top of it. In that way, he tries to make his lies seem partly true and more believable. Sinful people strengthen one another’s hands, and anyone who seeks out the company and help of evil people shows what he is himself.
