auto_stories Bible Guided Commentary

Here is David’s experience of the good the word brought him.

First, it was a means of making him holy. “Your word has given me life.” The word of God made him alive when he was dead in sin. It often made him active when he was lazy in duty. It stirred him toward what was good when he was unwilling and slow to do it. It also renewed his zeal when he was cold and careless in good things.

Second, it became a help and comfort in trouble, when he needed support. Because God’s word had given him life before, it comforted him then. Scripture has much in it that speaks comfort in suffering, but only those who have felt its life-giving power can truly take that comfort for themselves. If, by grace, it makes us holy, then it is enough to make us peaceful in every condition and under every event.
