See what those gain who live in the fear of God and always take care to do their duty to him.
First, they have safety. They will not be visited by evil. They may still be visited by sickness or other troubles, but no true harm will come to them. Nothing will hurt their soul or separate them from the love of God.
Second, they have satisfaction. They will remain satisfied. They will have comforts that truly satisfy, and they will keep a steady contentment and peace in them. This is a lasting satisfaction, while all pleasures of the senses are short-lived and soon pass away. He will not go to bed hungry, as the saying goes. He will have what makes him at ease and gives him comfort in quiet, lonely hours (Psalm 16:6, Psalm 16:7).
Third, they have true and complete happiness. Serious godliness has a direct path toward life, toward every good thing, and toward eternal life. It is the sure and ready way to that life. There is something in godliness itself that fits people for heaven and leads them there.
