The way to keep peace among family members and neighbors is to make the best of things. Do not pass along what has been said or done against another person when there is no real need for it. Also, do not dwell on what has been said or done against you. Instead, excuse both and give the best possible meaning to what happened. “It was an oversight, so overlook it. It was done out of forgetfulness, so forget it. It may have meant little to you, so do not make much of it.”
Bringing up old faults tears out love. Nothing more quickly separates friends or turns them against each other than repeating past grievances. When old hurts are repeated, they usually grow worse in the telling, and the feelings tied to them rise again and become sharper. The best way to keep peace is by forgiveness and forgetting the offense.
