Here we see how much praise is due to a faithful witness. He delivers the souls of the innocent, people who are falsely accused, and he also protects their good names, which are as precious to them as their lives. A man of integrity will risk the anger of even the most powerful person in order to bring the truth to light and rescue those hurt by lies. In the same way, a faithful minister, one who truly speaks for God against sin, helps deliver souls from eternal death.
We also see how little respect should be given to a false witness. He makes up lies and then spreads them with great confidence, aiming to destroy the innocent. For that reason, it is in a nation’s best interest to find and punish false testimony in court, and even lying in everyday speech. Truth holds society together.
