Observe this: people with a lazy, sluggish spirit, who love ease and cannot focus on any task, are not fit to be used, not even for a simple errand. They will not deliver a message carefully, and they will not hurry back. For that reason, they are very unfit to be ministers, Christ’s messengers, because he does not approve of sending sluggards into his harvest.
Those who make the mistake of trusting such people with any responsibility will surely suffer trouble from them. A lazy servant is as unpleasant to his master as vinegar is to the teeth and smoke is to the eyes. He stirs up anger, like vinegar sets the teeth on edge, and he causes sorrow when business is neglected and left undone, like smoke makes the eyes water.
