Here we see that malice is both foolish and wicked. It is foolish when it is hidden behind flattery and false words. A person may think himself clever or politically wise, but he is a fool if he hides hatred with lying lips. He does this to keep his anger secret, so that it does not show and bring shame before people, and so he can still carry out his malicious plans. Lying is bad enough on its own, but it is especially evil when it is used to cover hatred.
He is also a fool if he thinks he can hide anything from God. Malice is no better when it comes out in hateful and harmful speech. The one who spreads slander is also a fool, because God will eventually bring that hidden righteousness into the light, and he will find a way to remove the shame and reproach that evil speech tries to spread.
