A prayer for enemies: Asking God for Peace
Heavenly Father, You know the hurt I carry and the people I struggle to love. I bring You my anger without pretending it is gone. Meet me here, and help me speak honestly with You. Jesus, You taught us to pray for our enemies. Please care for the person who has hurt me. Work in their heart, and work in mine. Where harm has been done, bring truth and a willingness to change. Help me resist the urge to get even. When bitter thoughts return, turn my attention toward You. Teach me to forgive, even when forgiveness takes time and I need Your help with each small step. Give me wisdom about boundaries. Help me recognize when distance is needed and when a peaceful conversation may be possible. If I feel unsafe, give me courage to reach out to a pastor or someone I trust. I place this relationship in Your hands. Guide my words and actions today. Keep my heart open to Your mercy while helping me act with courage and care. Amen

A word of encouragement
In Matthew 5:44, Jesus calls His followers to love their enemies and pray for those who mistreat them. That can begin with a small, honest prayer when loving feelings seem far away. Romans 12:18 also recognizes that peace depends partly on what is within our power. You can seek peace without ignoring harm or forcing closeness. Ask God to help you take the next faithful step, whether that means releasing revenge, speaking truth, or keeping a needed boundary.

Write my prayerQuestions people ask
How do I pray for enemies when I am still angry?
Begin by telling God honestly how you feel. Ask Him to help you resist revenge and to guide both you and the other person toward truth, mercy, and change.
Does praying for an enemy mean I have to trust them again?
Praying for someone does not require giving them access to your life or pretending the harm did not happen. Trust may take time to rebuild, and wise boundaries can remain in place.
How can I pray for someone who threatens or abuses me?
You can ask God to stop the harm, bring accountability, and help the person change while also praying for your own protection. If you feel unsafe, reach out to a trusted person or pastor for support, and contact emergency services if you are in immediate danger.
