A good wife is a great blessing to a man. The one who finds a wife, that is, a true wife and not one who fails in that role, finds a help fit for him. In the Bible’s original sense, a wife is meant to be his companion and support. If a man has sought such a woman with care and prayer, and then found her, he has found a good thing, a jewel of great worth, something rare and precious.
Such a gift does more than make life pleasant. It helps a man in his daily comfort, and it can also support him on the way to heaven. For that reason, a man should thank God for it. A good wife is a sign of God’s favor, a promise of more blessings to come, and proof that God means good to a man and has mercy waiting for him. Therefore, God should be sought for this gift.
