Those are here encouraged who work hard to get wisdom, knowledge, grace, and a true knowledge of God. When people do that, they show that they love their own souls, and they do themselves the greatest kindness possible. No one ever hated his own body, but loves it. Yet many fail to truly love their own souls, because only those who get wisdom, true wisdom, really love their souls and therefore love themselves rightly.
Those are also encouraged who take care to keep wisdom after they have gained it. Wisdom is like health, wealth, honor, and everything good for the soul. So the one who keeps understanding shows that he loves his own soul, and he will surely find good, every kind of good. Whoever holds on to the good lessons he has learned and lives by them will find their benefit and comfort in his own soul, and will be happy here and forever.
