See here, first, how much trouble people will go to in order to harm others. They may hide their plan under a show of friendship, but the work itself is still costly and tiring. It is like digging a pit or rolling a heavy stone. Yet people will endure that hard labor when anger, revenge, or bad desire pushes them on.
See also, second, how this very effort prepares their own ruin. Their violent actions will come back on their own heads. They will fall into the pit they dug, and the stone they rolled will roll back on them (Psalm 7:15-16; Psalm 9:15-16). The righteous God will trap the clever, not only by their own tricks, but also by their own cruelty. That is the doom of every plotter. Haman was hanged on the gallows he had prepared himself.
There is no more fitting law than this, that those who make devices for death should perish by their own devices.
