Anyone who is too proud to be taught will surely be brought low. If a person refuses good instruction, as if it insults his honor or limits his freedom, poverty and shame will come to him. He may end up a beggar and live and die in disgrace. People will see him as foolish, stubborn, and impossible to guide.
But anyone who is humble enough to accept correction will surely be lifted up. The one who pays attention to a rebuke, no matter who gives it, and changes what is wrong when it is shown to him, earns respect as wise and fair-minded. He avoids what would bring shame and is on the path to becoming a person of importance.
