Athaliah had ruled in violence for six years. In this chapter, she is removed and killed, and Joash, the rightful heir, is put on the throne. We have already seen this story much as it is told here (2 Kings 11:4).
1. Jehoiada prepared the people for the king, told them his plan, armed them, and assigned each group its post (2 Chronicles 23:1-10).
2. He brought out the king to the people, then crowned him and anointed him (2 Chronicles 23:11).
3. He put the usurper, the one who had seized the throne wrongly, to death (2 Chronicles 23:12-15).
4. He reformed the kingdom, restored true worship, and re-established civil order (2 Chronicles 23:16-21).
