Here the apostle gives Timothy directions on several important matters. He tells him how to correct people properly (1 Timothy 5:1-2). He then speaks about widows, both older and younger women (1 Timothy 5:3-16). He also gives instruction about elders, that is, church leaders (1 Timothy 5:17-19). After that, he talks about public rebuke, meaning correction given openly (1 Timothy 5:20). He then gives a serious charge about ordination, the setting apart of someone for church office (1 Timothy 5:21-22). He also mentions his own health (1 Timothy 5:23), and he explains that people’s sins have different results, both now and later (1 Timothy 5:24-25).
