What the apostle says about another prophet is true of Micah as well, who was also his contemporary: “Isaiah is very bold” (Romans 10:20). In this chapter, Micah speaks with the same boldness as he rebukes and warns the great men who led others into sin. He also explains why he is so bold in (Micah 3:8): God gave him the message, taught him what to say, and carried him along by a power greater than his own.
Government and ministry are both great gifts from God for the good of his people, but both had been corrupted here. Their proper purpose had been turned aside. So the prophet is very severe against those who abused these gifts and used them to harm the church, and he is right to be severe.
1. He first gives them their warning separately, rebuking and threatening the rulers in (Micah 3:1-4) and the false, flattering prophets in (Micah 3:5-7).
2. Then he gives them their warning together, putting them side by side as partners in the ruin of the kingdom, a ruin they themselves would live to see (Micah 3:9-12).
