And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan.
And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

As we move through the last two chapters, we have seen so many good things done by the apostles that it is natural to ask where the scribes, Pharisees, and chief priests were. Why did they not come forward to oppose the apostles, as they had opposed Christ himself? Most likely, they were so shaken at first by the outpouring of the Spirit that they were silent for a time.
But they have not disappeared. Their strength gathers again, and now we see them face the apostles once more. From the very beginning, the gospel met resistance.
1. Peter and John are arrested by order of the priests and put in prison (Acts 4:1-4).
2. They are questioned by a committee of the great Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council (Acts 4:5-7).
3. They boldly defend what they have done and preach Christ to the very men who are opposing them (Acts 4:8-12).
4. Their enemies cannot answer them, so they order them to be silent and threaten them if they keep preaching the gospel. Then they release them (Acts 4:13-22).
5. The apostles turn to God in prayer, asking for more of the grace they had already received (Acts 4:23-30).
6. God shows his approval of them, both in outward signs and in the inward power of his presence with them (Acts 4:31-33).
7. The believers’ hearts are joined together in holy love. They also grow in generosity to the poor, and the church flourishes more than ever, to the glory of Christ (Acts 4:33-37).

"Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley."

"So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink."

"And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water."
