The second alphabetical lament uses the same sad tone as the first, and its main message is much the same. It begins with “How sad is our case! Alas for us!” Here, God’s anger toward Zion is shown as the cause of her troubles (Lamentations 2:1-9). Then the sorrow of Zion’s children is shown as the result of those troubles (Lamentations 2:10-19). Finally, the people bring their complaint to God and leave the matter in his merciful hands (Lamentations 2:20-22). The same hand that wounds must also make whole.
