As David’s story moves from one battle and victory to another, Solomon’s story moves from one building project to another. In this chapter, we see two main things.
1. Solomon fitted up several buildings for his own use (1 Kings 7:1-12).
2. He furnished the temple he had built for God. This included two pillars (1 Kings 7:13-22), a large bronze sea, that is, a huge basin for ceremonial washing (1 Kings 7:23-26), ten bronze basins and the stands for them (1 Kings 7:27-39), the rest of the temple utensils, or tools and vessels used in worship (1 Kings 7:40-50), and the things his father had dedicated (1 Kings 7:51).
The detailed description of these things was not needless when it was first written, and it is not useless now.
