And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.
And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

In this chapter, the apostle continues the argument from the end of the last chapter.
1. He warns the Corinthians against false confidence by pointing to the Jews. Though they had religious privileges and made a profession of faith, God still punished them severely for their many sins. Their history was preserved as a warning for Christians (1 Corinthians 10:1-14).
2. He takes up his earlier teaching about food offered to idols again (1 Corinthians 8:1-13). He shows that eating such food as an offering to an idol is completely out of step with true Christianity. In fact, it is open idolatry. It means sharing in the worship of demons, which can never go together with fellowship with God (1 Corinthians 10:15-22).
3. He also tells them that, while they must not eat this food as something sacrificed to an idol, or in honor of the idol, they may still buy meat in the market or eat it at the home of a Gentile acquaintance without asking questions. The Gentiles’ misuse of the meat does not make God’s creation unfit for his people to eat. Still, this freedom must be used with care for weak consciences, and no offense should be given to Jews or Gentiles, or to the church of God (1 Corinthians 10:23 to the end).
