In building a house, much work goes into the doors and the walls between rooms. The tabernacle had the same kind of work, matched to the rest of its structure. It had curtains for doors and veils for partitions.
One veil separated the holy place from the most holy place (Exodus 36:35, Exodus 36:36). This showed how limited and dark that older system was when compared with the New Testament. The New Testament reveals God’s glory more clearly and calls us to draw near to him. It also reminds us how far we still are from heaven, where we will be with the Lord and see him as he is.
There was also a veil for the entrance to the tabernacle (Exodus 36:37, Exodus 36:38). The people gathered at this door, though they were not allowed to go in. While we live in this present life, we should come as near to God as we can.
